Wilpattu is Sri Lanka’s largest national park and one of the oldest protected areas in the world, a vast, remote wilderness of ancient lake beds, known as villus, dense scrub jungle and open grasslands in the northwest of the island. The park is renowned for its population of Sri Lankan leopards, which are sighted in and around the villus, as well as sloth bears, elephants, and an impressive array of waterbirds.
