ACTIVITIES

Live Sri Lanka - Don't Just See It.

The most transformative travel moments are found in the breathless hush before a leopard steps into a clearing, in the warmth of a family kitchen as you learn to cook a Sri Lankan curry, in the stillness of a forest bathing walk through ancient trees or in the ocean beneath a whale-watching vessel as a blue whale surfaces alongside.

Kite Surfing Thrills

Kalpitiya is one of the finest kitesurfing destinations, with a broad, shallow lagoon system, consistent Trade Winds, a wide flat-water riding area, and warm, clear water that create near-perfect conditions for riders from May to October. The Kalpitiya peninsula offers a combination of a protected learner lagoon and an open ocean riding area for more advanced kiters, making it suitable for first-time students and experienced riders alike. Beyond the riding itself, the setting is spectacular: a remote coastline of white sand, blue water and open sky, with the added bonus of spinner dolphin pods frequently visible offshore. We arrange kitesurfing packages that include tuition from certified instructors, equipment and accommodation at one of the peninsula’s boutique surf lodges, for an experience that combines adventure, natural beauty and an escape.

Surfing Adventures

Sri Lanka offers world-class surfing across multiple locations, catering to all ability levels – from the beginner-friendly beach breaks of Weligama on the south coast to the challenging right-hand point break of Arugam Bay on the east coast. The island’s position between two monsoon systems means that while the south and west coasts surf from October to April, the east coast comes alive between May and September, giving dedicated surfers an almost year-round season by moving between coasts. Sri Lanka’s warm water, consistent swell, and relaxed, welcoming surf culture make it an ideal destination for beginners taking their first lessons as well as experienced surfers seeking quality, uncrowded waves. A network of excellent surf schools along both coasts provides professional instruction, equipment rentals, and local wave knowledge for surfers of all levels.

White Water Rafting

The Kelani River at Kitulgala, a fast-flowing mountain river cutting through rainforest in Sri Lanka’s hill country foothills, offers some of the most exhilarating white-water rafting. A series of rapids ranging from Grade 2 to Grade 4 provides an adrenaline-charged river adventure suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, with certified river guides leading every session and providing full safety equipment and instruction before launch. The jungle setting adds a unique dimension to the experience – as you navigate the rapids, you are surrounded by a tropical forest alive with birdsong, butterflies and the occasional streak of a kingfisher across the water. Kitulgala is also the location where the Academy Award-winning film “The Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed, adding a fascinating historical footnote.

Snorkelling and Scuba Diving

Sri Lanka’s coastal waters conceal a rich underwater world of vibrant coral gardens, ancient shipwrecks, tropical reef fish, sea turtles, and a remarkable diversity of marine life waiting to be explored. The island offers excellent diving and snorkelling across multiple locations: the shallow reef at Hikkaduwa is one of the most accessible and colourful on the island; Pigeon Island in the northeast is a protected marine reserve with outstanding clarity and reef health; and the deeper sites off Trincomalee include historic British Royal Navy wrecks from the Second World War lying in clear, warm water. We cater to all levels of experience, from complete beginners taking their first breath underwater through a resort course to certified divers seeking more advanced sites and technical dives.

Culinary Journeys & Local Food Experiences

Sri Lankan cuisine is one of Asia’s great, undiscovered culinary traditions, a vibrant, aromatic, fiercely delicious food culture built on fresh tropical produce, hand-ground spice blends, coconut milk, and centuries of multicultural influences from South India, the Maldives, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Britain. Our culinary experiences are designed to take you beyond the restaurant menu and into the kitchen, the market and the spice garden, the places where Sri Lankan food is made, sourced and understood. Hands-on cooking classes with local families, guided spice garden tours in Matale where you learn to identify and taste the island’s signature flavours from the source, street food walks through the aromatic lanes of Pettah Market in Colombo, and private beach dinners featuring the freshest southern coast seafood are among the experiences we offer.

Scenic Train Journeys & Slow Travel Routes

The train journey from Kandy to Ella through Sri Lanka’s central highlands is consistently ranked among the world’s most beautiful rail routes, a six-hour passage through a landscape of immense loveliness: emerald tea plantations rolling to the horizon, waterfalls tumbling from misty escarpments, and old colonial viaducts and tunnels carving through forested hillsides. Travelling by train in Sri Lanka is one of the most authentic ways to experience the island, sharing carriages with locals, watching the scenery change from lowland to highland and back again, and allowing the rhythm of the rails to set the tempo of the day. We incorporate scenic train journeys into our round tour itineraries wherever possible, selecting routes and timings that offer the best light, the most rewarding landscapes, and the most memorable slow-travel experiences.

Hiking, Trekking & Viewpoint Trails

Sri Lanka’s diverse topography makes it an outstanding destination for walkers and trekkers of all abilities, from gentle sunrise strolls to multi-day wilderness expeditions through some of Asia’s most biodiverse landscapes. The central highlands offer the island’s most dramatic trekking terrain – routes through the Knuckles Mountain Range, along the ridges above Ella, across the misty plateau of Horton Plains, and up the sacred slopes of Adam’s Peak take walkers through cloud forests, tea estates, ancient temples, and viewpoints of breathtaking scale. For those seeking a more relaxed encounter with Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, shorter trails to viewpoints such as Little Adam’s Peak in Ella, Lipton’s Seat in Haputale, and Pidurangala Rock above Sigiriya offer accessible, rewarding walks suitable for families and less experienced hikers.

Wellness, Ayurveda & Mindful Retreats

Sri Lanka has a 3,000-year tradition of Ayurvedic medicine and healing, a holistic system of wellness that addresses the body, mind and spirit through personalised herbal treatments, therapeutic massage, dietary guidance and meditative practice. Our wellness experiences range from a single restorative Ayurvedic massage integrated into a broader itinerary, to comprehensive multi-day retreats at dedicated wellness centres where certified Ayurvedic physicians design a fully personalised treatment programme tailored to your needs. Yoga sessions at dawn overlooking misty highland valleys, forest-bathing walks in ancient rainforests, guided meditation by the sea, and herbal steam baths in tranquil garden settings are among the experiences we offer for travellers seeking renewal, balance and a genuine escape from the pace of modern life.

Turtle Conservation Experiences

Sri Lanka’s coastline is a nesting ground for five of the world’s seven sea turtle species, and participation in responsible turtle conservation is one of the most meaningful experiences available to visitors. Our turtle experiences are designed around educational and conservation benefits, and we partner with ethical operators and certified hatcheries that prioritise the animals’ welfare and natural behaviour over the visitor experience. At locations such as Rekawa Beach and coastal hatcheries in the southwest, guests can observe wild nesting turtles under supervision, following strict no-touch, no-chase guidelines that ensure the turtles are never disturbed during this critical process. Hatchling release programmes are conducted under the guidance of conservation staff, who ensure that every interaction respects the animals’ instincts and natural pace.

Whale and Dolphin Watching Expeditions

Sri Lanka is one of the best whale watching destinations, offering year-round opportunities to encounter blue whales, sperm whales, and large pods of spinner dolphins in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The island’s position at the junction of major cetacean migration routes means that as one season ends on the southern coast, another begins on the east, creating a near-continuous window of opportunity across the calendar. Our whale watching expeditions depart from both Mirissa (November to April) and Trincomalee (May to October), using certified operators who follow responsible guidelines for vessel behaviour around marine mammals. Blue whales are regularly sighted close to shore, and the experience of watching one surface alongside the boat, exhaling a column of mist into the morning sky, is genuinely humbling.

Birdwatching Adventures

Sri Lanka is a paradise for birdwatchers, a small island that supports over 430 recorded bird species, including 34 species found nowhere else on earth, making it one of the most rewarding birdwatching destinations in Asia relative to its size. Our birdwatching experiences take you into the island’s most productive habitats: the ancient forests of Sinharaja, where endemic species travel in mixed feeding flocks; the highland wetlands of Horton Plains, where rare montane species inhabit cloud-swept grasslands; the coastal lagoons of Bundala, where migrant waders gather in their thousands; and the dry zone national parks, where raptors soar above the open plains. Whether you are a dedicated lister or simply someone who finds joy in birds, Sri Lanka’s avian richness will leave you astonished.

Wildlife Safaris & Nature Encounters

Sri Lanka’s national parks are among the most rewarding wildlife destinations in Asia, and a jeep safari through their diverse landscapes is one of the most exhilarating experiences. Our wildlife safaris take you into the heart of Yala, Wilpattu, Udawalawe, Minneriya and other protected areas, guided by naturalists who know these ecosystems well and can read the signs of animal presence. From the moment of spotting a leopard to the sheer spectacle of a hundred elephants gathering around a shrinking reservoir, every safari holds the promise of something extraordinary. We prioritise responsible wildlife viewing practices at all times – maintaining distances, limiting vehicle numbers and ensuring that the animals’ welfare and natural behaviour are never compromised for the sake of a closer photograph.
