Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first and most sacred royal capital, is one of the great archaeological sites of the ancient world, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city whose history stretches back over 2,500 years and whose sacred precincts remain living centres of Buddhist devotion and pilgrimage to this day. This full-day tour covers the city’s most significant sites with an expert guide who brings each monument to life through storytelling, historical context, and cultural insight: the Sri Maha Bodhi tree grown from a cutting of the original Bodhi Tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment; the enormous white dagobas (stupas) Ruwanweliseya, Jetavanaramaya, and Thuparamaya; and the royal palace complexes and monastic precincts that once supported a population rivalling ancient Rome. The tour includes private vehicle transport, expert guide fees, entrance fees, and lunch; personal expenses, temple donations, and tips are not included.
