The island offers excellent diving and snorkelling across multiple locations: the shallow reef at Hikkaduwa is one of the most accessible and colourful on the island; Pigeon Island in the northeast is a protected marine reserve with outstanding clarity and reef health; and the deeper sites off Trincomalee include historic British Royal Navy wrecks from the Second World War lying in clear, warm water.
